Friday is a day of the week which, according to some scholars, is named after the Norse god Odin's wife Frigg. However, other scholars believe that it was named after the goddess Freya, who was possibly the same goddess as Frigg. At least in the South Germanic area, Frigg was seen as a counterpart to the Venus of Roman mythology (which gave its name to the same day in Romance languages).
