Tunby

A number of farms north of Smedstorp and to the west of Tunbyholmssjön is Tunby. There are active large agricultural properties, but also parcelled farms and occasional single-family houses.
The surroundings are hilly agricultural landscape with continuous deciduous forest in the north.

Probably best known is Tunbyholm Castle, built in 1634, originally an example of the Christian IV Renaissance. The castle has a chequered history. Linnaeus visited Tunbyholm during his journey to Skåne. The castle was ravaged by fire. The current building dates from 1834.
In 1918, the buildings were parceled off and the owners became the Akrell family, who still live in the castle. Many fishermen take the opportunity to challenge the lake's eel and pike stocks.

This is where parts of Hans Alfredson's The Simple Murderer were filmed. Just west of the lake are the ruins of the old parish church. North of the lake is the so-called Järnkällan (Iron Spring), which once attracted many with its allegedly health-giving water.

The nearest towns with schools and other services are Smedstorp, about half a mile south, St Olof and Onslunda, both about half a mile to the north and west respectively.
Distance to the city centre Tomelilla is about one and a half kilometres.
