Along the entrance straight north to Tomelilla from motorway 19 is Sälshög, an old and a slightly younger village formation, consisting mainly of farms. Sälshög continues along the road Spear village–Tryde.
Ambumsgården became very well known, where Svenska Ord, under the leadership of Hans Alfredson and Tage Danielsson, set up its Scanian film centre. Films such as Picasso's Adventures, The Egg is Loose and others were shot here.
Sälshög has a number of active agricultural properties, but also other businesses such as car dismantling, accountants and florists.
The surroundings are intensive agricultural landscape and the industrial area north of Tomelilla. The distance to Tomelilla is one kilometre. Free school is available in Tryde one kilometre to the west. Nearby is the well-known Tingvalla entertainment centre, as well as the Svampabanan motorsport facility and Tomelilla Sommarland Tosselilla.
