Järrestad

Järrestad is in a quiet location since the construction of the 9 motorway outside the community, yet close enough for easy access to bus services.

Järrestad is a village with very ancient origins. In and around the village there are plenty of ancient monuments, burial mounds and rock carvings. Many people interested in history visit the fantastic rock carvings at Vilhelmsberg on the road between Järrestad and Gladsax where there are more than 550 figures carved in the hall.

Most talked about is the difficult-to-interpret carving of the Dancer. South of the village, the Tommarpsån river winds its way, a fairly modest salmon-bearing watercourse today.

The railway runs through the village, but if you want to use the Pågat train, you have to travel the five kilometres to the station in Simrishamn. A pedestrian and cycle path leads into the centre, where full services such as schools, shops and hospitals are available.
