North of Stenshuvud National Park is Karakås (the emphasis in the place name should be on the last syllable). In Karakås there are spacious car parks for those who want to visit Stenshuvud from the north. Otherwise, Karakås is mainly a place you visit to look at Äpplets hus and shop in Kivik musteris factory shop.
The pioneer in fruit-growing circles was undoubtedly Henrik Åkesson, and the Åkesson family still owns what everyone once called "Musteriet". The fact that fruit growing is so suitable here is due to the climatic conditions. The flowering of the fruit trees is held back by the proximity of the cold sea in the spring and the long, mild autumns make the ripening period long.
Along the road to Karakås, mainly to the east of the road, are a number of large villas, a few farms and then, as a focal point, Musteriet with factory and shop. The Äpplets hus complex with the popular Kärnhuset restaurant attracts many visitors. Here you can find everything worth knowing about fruit and fruit growing. All the apple varieties in a well-kept demonstration garden are like a living library.
The Apple House organises cider tastings, the history of the apple is shown, lectures are held and musical entertainment is offered. West of Karakås is the famous arboretum at Kiviks Äsperöd. The nearest larger town with services such as schools, nursing homes, shops etc. is Kivik, one and a half kilometres to the north.
The road there passes a number of smaller ship sets, the beautiful sports centre Solevi where Kiviks AIF is housed, but also past Sågmöllans kaffestuga and Bredarör, or Kiviksgraven or kungagraven as many call it.
