Bertilstorp

Bertilstorp, the small village in Albo county, just over seven kilometres west of Brösarp, can rightly be called quiet and peaceful. The settlements, consisting of small farms and small houses, are relatively scattered along the 1607 and 1680 roads.

Here, the landscape is the mixture of plains and woodland that is so typical of Albo county. Many streams run here and the terrain is gently undulating. Many nature lovers choose to hike in the area. Fiskabäcken, Verkeån and Verkasjön are particularly popular. Verkeån is considered one of Skåne's cleanest watercourses. The banks along Verkeån are covered with beech, alder and other deciduous trees.

The flora is very rich in species, thanks to the abundance of grazing animals that graze the meadows interspersed between the wooded areas. No less than 66 red-listed species are known in the area. There are plenty of mushrooms. There are sites for leaf frogs and long-legged frogs, and around ten threatened beetle species can be found here. For those interested in birds, Verkeån offers white-tailed egrets, common terns and kingfishers. The river also has a lively sea trout population. The cautious forest walker can also enjoy red and fallow deer, roe deer, elk and wild boar.

Proximity to Christinehof offers a rich cultural life in summer, with rock concerts and opera. I Brösarp there is school, rich innThere is a pizzeria, health centre, dentist, butcher, pharmacy, grocery store, bakery, petrol station and, early every spring, the world-famous Brösarp Antiques Fair. For some years now, there has also been a fair for modern furniture and interior design. Bus connections from Brösarp are good.

On 11 May 1944, little Bertilstorp was on the front page of every newspaper in Sweden. At half past nine, a V1 rocket crashed between Bertilstorp and Breabäck. It was actually a modified F1 aircraft that Heinrich Himmler had named V1, Vedergällningsvapen 1. The V1 was soon followed by a robot rocket, V2, which, like the V1, was launched from the rocket base in Peenemünde and which was to contribute to Germany's victory over Great Britain. This did not happen, and fortunately the Bertilstorp bomb did not cause major damage, but the news value was high.
Today, the village is much calmer.
