Restaurant Guide: Malmö Food Hunters

Österlen.se X Malmö Food Hunters

8 restaurants. 8 reviews. 1 message:

It's time for Malmö to open its eyes to Österlen.

Here on the other side of Skåne, we often wonder - why don't more people from Malmö come here to eat? Is it homesickness? Laziness? Or have they simply not realised what a gastronomic goldmine we have here?

So we took matters into our own hands. We invited down Malmö's hottest food critics - Malmö Food Hunters - to show what Österlen is all about. They have tested eight of our restaurants, filmed everything in Reels and posted on Instagram. Now Malmö is getting a taste of the truth.

Below you will find Malmö Food Hunters guide summarised - with links to booking. Some places offer both food and accommodation, and all offer an extraordinary dining experience.

1. VYN Food & Wine Bar

Best restaurant experience of the year so far: @vynfoodandwinebar, sister of Michelin-starred @danielberlinrestaurant, delivers world-class food at surprisingly reasonable prices. Three-course menu for £650 or à la carte - we tried almost everything.

The evening began in the greenhouse bar overlooking the sea with some of the most unique non-alcoholic drinks we've tried - such as beetroot with shiso and carbonated magnolia. Every dish was a winner: anchovies on crispy bread, fantastic crayfish soup, delicious bread with milk butter, buttery matjes herring, artichoke that surprised and world-class cod.

The desserts were great - especially the truffles and frozen strawberries - and the non-alcoholic drinks package was impressive. We can't wait to return - both here and to the main restaurant.

2. Brösarps Gästis

@brosarpsgastgifveri - a relaxing getaway with food, spa and charm
A spring weekend at Brösarps Gästgifveri & Spa offered cosy vintage-style accommodation, unexpectedly good breakfasts with vegan options and a small but well-planned spa with pools, saunas and the possibility of drinks.

The lunch was impressive - especially the asparagus with cold smoked salmon and hollandaise. The egg cake was hearty and good, and the rhubarb pie really buttery and crunchy. The service was warm and personalised.

A holistic experience with high food quality and a relaxed country feel.

3. carnelian grove

@karnelundkrogorum - Portuguese tones and passion on the plate
At Karnelund you are greeted by a warm, personal atmosphere and a kitchen with great finesse - one of our favourites on the trip. Charlotte and Thomas cook and serve themselves, with clear passion.

Dinner included highlights such as red prawn with tahini, chilli and browned butter, and halibut with curried dill and dashi beurre blanc. The non-alcoholic beverage package was creative, if a little too apple-centred.

The desserts were beautiful, especially the chocolate mousse with smoked salt and pears. The rooms have a modern country style, and the shop sells Portuguese delicacies and crockery.

4. Bobergs at the harbour

@bobergs_pa_hamngarden - thoughtful enjoyment by the sea
Bobergs in Brantevik offers a gastronomic experience with seaside accommodation and fine cooking. We chose the four-hour menu Emil's Taste Journey - a creative interpretation of local ingredients.

Highlights: fried scallops with tarragon butter, potato fondant with browned butter and caviar, and cod with asparagus and mustard sauce. Desserts were of a high standard, especially the cheese dessert and a fresh lemon-thyme sorbet. The non-alcoholic drinks package was impressive - not least the rose and vanilla drink.

The room was cosy, the breakfast generous and the location peaceful. A place where the details are allowed to shine.

5. 1303 Tryde

@tryde1303 - a creative oasis in Tryde
Tryde 1303 is more than a restaurant - it's where food, sustainability, culture and nature meet. We had a lunch with a colourful tapas tray, vegetarian thali with spice and rustic pizza. All cooked with care and local ingredients.

After dinner, we sat in the sun with good coffee and a sticky chocolate cake with berries and ice cream. The place is run with heart by Anna and Juan - everything from recycled furnishings to the small shop with Ecuadorian products is connected in a well-thought-out whole.

6. Maritim Hotel & Restaurant

@maritimhotell.se - classics with sea views
Right by the harbour in Simrishamn is Maritim - a restaurant where classic flavours meet modern details. The mushroom tartare was an umami bomb, and the grilled asparagus with sage and butter sauce was a favourite. The plaice from the original 1973 recipe was deliciously buttery, and the cod was perfect.

The rhubarb sorbet with pistachio, white chocolate and meringue rounded off the evening nicely. Warm and personalised service, and that sea just outside the window.

Gårdens vedugn

7. the farm's wood-burning stove

@gardensvedugn - Italian crafts in a cosy courtyard
Hidden away in a charming courtyard, the farm's wood-fired oven offers wood-fired pizzas, gnocchi, arancini and more. The vegetarian antipasto with artichoke and romesco sauce set the tone, and the gnocchi was one of the best we've had - perfect texture and flavourful tomato sauce. The pizzas had thin bases with a distinct wood-fired character.

For dessert, we particularly liked the almond cake with chocolate and coconut. A warm and genuine place where the love for the ingredients is clearly visible.

8. Härden Food Studio

@hardenmatstudio - home-hosted dinner with warmth and precision
In a personal home in Hammenhög, Linda and Torkel offer a unique dining experience where you follow the cooking up close. The evening is characterised by a relaxed atmosphere, charming chaos and thoughtful dishes.

We enjoyed white oak grilled asparagus with wild garlic sauce and a flavourful, smoky turbot with crispy cream cheese croquette. Basque cheesecake with raspberry ice cream and roasted white chocolate finished the dinner nicely. The non-alcoholic drinks package was well composed and adult in flavour.

Dinner takes about 4 hours and is served Wednesday to Saturday throughout the summer (after midsummer to week 34) - book well in advance!
