Alunbruket Kaffestuga och B&B

Coffee shop

Welcome to Kaffestugan Alunbruket, a classic excursion destination in Österlen. Here you will find Skåne's oldest coffee house, beautifully situated in the listed industrial village of Alunbruket, surrounded by forest and the scenic Verkeån Nature Reserve.

The charming half-timbered terrace was built as workers' housing as early as the beginning of the 18th century. Since 1930, guests have been served freshly brewed coffee and home-baked fika at this historic location. The tradition lives on to this day, with genuine craftsmanship and personal service, now in its fourth generation.

Everything is baked from scratch – no shortcuts and no ready-made ingredients. Only top-quality pastries, baked on site with care and fine ingredients. The classic biscuit plate with recipes from Hilda's time is still served, while new flavour combinations are given space. For those who are a little hungrier, there are hearty sandwiches on our own homemade bread.

Alunbruket Tea Room is a popular stop for hikers, cyclists and connoisseurs alike, who are looking for a genuine fika in a historic setting. When the weather permits, you can sit out in the garden, but of course you can also enjoy your fika indoors.

Garden

”To lay out a garden is like starting a play that spans centuries.”

The garden at Alunbruket's coffee shop has been in constant development since 1930, when Hilda Nilsson started her tea room. Today it is a lush and vibrant part of the visit, with dense flowerbeds, classic cottage garden plants, roses, perennials, shrubs and trees.

The ambition is to let plants fill every little space in the flowerbeds. This keeps weeds at bay, helps the soil retain moisture and, above all, creates a beautiful, diverse garden where different colours, shapes and flowering times interact.

Here, peonies and lavender, roses and lamb's ears, blue corydalis and lady's mantle meet, among others. The flowerbeds also feature monkshood, garden phlox, hollyhock, dropwort, alpine sea holly and wake-robin. Among the trees and shrubs are Chinese dogwood, Korean dogwood, mulberry, walnut, magnolia and panicle hydrangea.

Roses hold a special place in the garden. Here grow varieties such as Ghislaine de Féligonde, New Dawn, Madame Plantier, Rose de Rescht, Queen of Sweden and the historic apothecary's rose.

Many of the plants are propagated on site to be used in the garden. The surplus is sold in the small nursery, where the range may vary during the season. Plants are also bought in from Kjell Eriksson's nursery next to Christinehof Castle.

”A good combination of plants is like a cheerful party with just the right number of guests, where everyone is given the time and space to express themselves.”

Take a seat with a cup of coffee among blooming flower beds, buzzing bumblebees and butterflies, with the Verkeån river and nature reserve right next door. Dogs are also welcome to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
